The Lake District Survival Guide has been short-listed for The Lakeland Book of the Year 2020

If you’re wondering who that guy is on the front cover, it’s Alfred Wainwright, my favourite Fellwander.

There are a few times in the book I might take the wee wee at AW’s expense, but don’t let that fool you. Alfred is my hero. I’ve read all his books and walked all his walks. His books aren’t just books, they’re adventures, they’re memories that you’ll never forget and they are works of art.

In my mind, they are just perfect.

That said, he may have been a little bit anti-social at times, aren’t we all, hence the pitch folk and the serial killer eyes.

Wainwright is one of the main characters in the book, but we also have quite a few others.

Melvyn Bragg, Lord of all Wigton, also plays his part. As does King Dunmail, a few well-known poets and Ranulph Fiennes. If you want Saturday Night celebs we have Dermot O’Leary, Ant and Dec and, of course, Sarah Nelson.

Here’s a sneak peak:

And here’s a couple of customer comments from Facebook:

All you have to do, this is the salesy bit, is buy it and you can while away a few hours in the company of these incredible people, and me, not quite so incredible.

If you want to buy it, there’s a few things you can do:

Come to Cumbria and browse around a few shops and buy it there, a bit difficult to do at the moment.

Buy it on this website, right here.

Thanks.
