A few of my fav videos

Dan Osman’s Speed Climb

This is a classic rock climbing video that you’ve probably all seen, but I’ve included it just because it’s great.

You will not be surprise to learn the Dan Osman died in 1998 at the age of 35. He didn’t fall off a rock face – he jumped off.

He was doing a ‘free fall’ jump from a rock in Yosemite National Park. This involved falling several hundred feet from a cliff then being caught by a safety rope. On the day he died the ropes he had been using had been exposed to snow and rain for a month before the jump. They snapped.

Danny MacAskill – Inspired Bike Skills

After I watched this video I tried to pull off a wheelie in front of the kids and ended up with the bike on top of me… whoops.

10,000 more hours in the saddle before I attempt a drop of the bridge at the bottom of our road.

This video, or more precisely, Danny MacAskill makes you feel weak and feeble. I went over a 3 foot wide bridge with a small drop into a river once and thought I was a cycling god. I have now altered my perception of myself.

Watch this and be inspired to pull off that wheelie you haven’t tried for 20 years. Wear your helmet.

El Caminito del Rey

El Caminito del Rey or The King’s little pathway is a walkway that had fallen into disrepair, pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, near Álora in Málaga, Spain. The name is often shortened to Camino del Rey.

In 1921 King Alfonso XIII crossed the walkway for the inauguration of the dam Conde del Guadalhorce and it became known by its present name.

When this video was filmed, in some places the walkway has collapsed. It is one meter (3 feet and 3 inches) in width, and is over 300 meters (984 feet) above the river. Nearly all of the path had no handrail. Some parts of the concrete walkway had completely collapsed and all that was remaining was the steel beam originally in place to hold it up and the wire that follows most of the path. You can latch onto a safety-wire to keep from falling, though it can’t hold much weight. Several people have lost their lives on the walkway.

The walkway has now been restored, made safe and is a tourist attraction.
